A FRUITFUL PARTNERSHIP IS ALWAYS IN SEASON

…for the members of the German fruit trade association.

The German fruit trade association (DFHV) is the national association for fruit and vegetable trade in Germany. The DFHV represents direct marketing, import, export and wholesale companies. The large German food retail chains are also included. This representative body was founded more than 50 years ago. It was established in its current form on the 1st January 2000. The association emerged out of the alliance of national and regional trade associations in order to harness forces of the industry. As a fruit trade association, the DFHV covers all business activities of the marketing chain.

Service is our priority.
Our professional training courses are key to a successful future.

What we do for you…

Information
Regular circulars and mailing lists keep members informed about changes in the law, current topics, important dates and events.
An extensive archive of information in the form of an extranet will be implemented exclusively for our associated companies on the DFHV website. There, grouped by major subject area, you can find laws, regulations, circulars and contact inquiries. Members will no longer have to do the archiving themselves and save a lot of time. The extranet archives everything for you in a database, and all the information can be easily located via a search function.

Business contacts
The fruit trading industry is very communicative, and the DFHV is the perfect contact platform for its members. Conferences, trade fairs and member meetings are the ideal setting for exchanging information and develop business contacts.

Quality assurance
Residue monitoring is a special service provided by the DFHV, which has proved to be an important aid when dealing with the demands of the current food regulations. DFHV has the largest German fruit and vegetable self-control system in place and every year it analyses several thousands of laboratory samples for pesticide residues, additives and contaminants.
This steady and systematic examination process protects the members of the association as well as the consumers and contributes to strengthening the trust in the quality and safety of fruit and vegetables. Based on a networked internet database, the DFHV has developed the only quality assurance strategy that does justice to the worldwide trade activities of the industry.

Education and training
In order for the decades of accumulated expert knowledge not to get lost, the DFHV opposes this by offering professional further training courses. The best example is the internationally recognised fruit merchant seminar where experts with several years of experience who have already completed a course of training in this branch of business learn all about the subtleties of this demanding profession.
This further training course is available every year under the patronage of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. This seminar is the only industry-specific further training course for specialists in the area of fruit import and wholesale with a recognised certificate. Experienced consultants from the fruit industry, from the civil service and from management consultancy pass on their expert knowledge and prepare the participants for future managerial functions.

Industry standards
The DFHV does not wait for others to make decisions about the industry. The DFHV sets its own standards that are based on its members’ experience and that are useful in day-to-day business.
One example are the “guidelines for good hygiene practise in the fruit and vegetable trade”. They were noted in Brussels in 1999 as one of the first industry guidelines conforming to HACCP regulations. These guidelines also represent the legally binding foundation for Germany. In 2004, the DFHV published a handbook on the International Food Standard (IFS) which contains practical instructions for the quick and effective implementation of the IFS. With regard to the quality management of the companies and the certification bodies, nothing saves more time and money.

Expert committees
The various DFHV committees and work groups also serve as an information pla tform for interested members and represent an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences about current problems with colleagues from other companies.

The forward-looking companies are part of the association…

Full DFHV members
These are companies with head office in Germany who are actively involved in the marketing of fresh fruit and vegetables. These include producer marketing organisations, importers, agencies, exporters, wholesalers and retail businesses.

Sustaining members
These are companies and organisations in Germany and abroad that are closely associated with the fruit trade industry. They include areas such as consulting, sales promotion, packaging, transport and logistics.

The DFHV itself is a member of
several national and international interest groups:
BGA Federation of German Wholesale and Foreign Trade
BLL German Federation of Food Law and Food Science
EBD European Movement Germany
DGVM German Society for Association Management
FRESHFEL European Fresh Produce Association
CAIFL International Arbitration Chamber for Fruit and Vegetables
INPA International Network of Produce Associations

…because you want to have a say and be involved!

The DHFV closely collaborates with many organisations and institutions, from the Federal Ministries and top federal authorities to trade organisations and fairs, the German Standard DIN and the German consumer test organisation “Stiftung Warentest”.
As representative body for all fruit trading companies, the DFHV is represented in all important expert committees and symposiums through its chair or through management, where it expresses the interests of the fruit trading industry.
The DFHV organises professional exchange with upstream and downstream industries, certification organisations, consultancy firms, technical suppliers, logistics companies, universities and research institutes. Together with the Federal Government and with embassies we receive trade delegations and experts from other countries.
In the area of development cooperation, the DFHV contributes with its expertise in trade policy to open the doors to the worldwide market.
